Solar Viability Analysis
Copal Tree Distillery - Belize
Acorn Planning and Design was retained by the world's largest organic rum distillery to conduct technical and financial reviews for competing solar proposals. The Distillery received a detailed analysis of different design considerations and was able to incorporate suggestions from the review into the final design while using information from the review to negotiate for opportune pricing.
Residential-Scale Food Forest
Private Client - Seacoast NH
This homeowner sought to create a perennial food system on a 50x50' patch of lawn in New Hampshire. Utilizing no-till methods, this plot is now home to thriving mulberry, plum, cherry, and elderberry as well as trellised table grapes, raspberries, rhubarb, asparagus and other herbaceous edible perennials and groundcovers. A diverse fungal community provides shitake, winecap, and oyster mushrooms throughout the year.

Pollinator Habitat and Lawn Conversion
Private Client - Scarborough ME
Acorn Planning and Design worked closely with a private homeowner to convert a large grass monoculture lawn to a low-maintenance, vibrant pollinator habitat and productive perennial food source. An "oasis" of sorts in a mowed suburban environment, the project attracts birds, insects, and other wildlife at a level much greater than its size while providing nourishment and a quiet, contemplative space for the family.
Grazing, Fencing, and Irrigation Plan
Groundswell Farms - Seacoast NH
A successful farm begins with thoughtful and well-planned infrastructure. Over the course of time, Acorn Planning and Design staff identified seasonal patterns as well as logistical opportunities and constraints on a diversified livestock and vegetable farm and designed appropriate infrastructure to optimize productivity while minimizing labor and monetary expenditures.
